And now, hearts are red ? – Si acum , inimile sunt rosii ?

Dragobetele (Valentine`s Romanian version) approaches and I’m almost done with lavender sachets. For those who are hopeless romantics I did some bags with hearts and started another with Romanian traditional motifs .

Because the tradition of “martisoare“ is specific to our area and may you not know why I am so busy to prepare for first March, I will  refer to Wikipedia- what means martisor where you can read briefly about. Better to tell you a story about “martisoare“from my childhood.I admit, I have always liked the “martisor“ colourful joy .The nicest one, instead to give as a gift, I used to put away in a box to admire later. My little heart does not resist separating from those miniature beauties . After a while the little box mysteriously disappeared or maybe I forgot where I put it for the next year to appear like magic. Mom? Something to confess?

In recent years handmade products have gained ground again and Romanian artist’s creation are increasingly popular.

I would say that it’s ephemeral art because “martisor“ is worn pinned near to the heart or at the hand as a bracelet, just a few days (roughly from 1 March until 10 March) but I am happy to see that, when I manage to create a useful gift- martisor, it will be used all year. The best example is the one from last year, crocheted roses made of ombre wool to which I attached a clasp for brooches and then I saw these roses fondly worn on many occasions. I made a few this year.

I found a tradition very similar to that of Romaniaat the Bulgarians, our southern neighbors, the Macedonians and Greeks. Martenitsa (Bulgarian: мартеница, pronounced [martɛnit͡sa] Macedonian: мартинка, Greek: μάρτης, Romanian: mărţişor).

In early March after March 8 International Day Women and we celebrate especially our moms and March 9 – the day of 40 saints or martyrs) the white red threads from martisor are put to cling in the blossom  rees in faith that will bring us luck.

Martisoare this year are still in progress, I have some ideas. You can find them here but if you want to do it yourself leave a message here with what details you need.

Have a nice day ladies

Buna ziua doamnelor,

Recunosti ceva ?

Martenitsa (Bulgarian: мартеница, pronounced  [ˈmartɛnit͡sa]Macedonian: мартинка, Greek: μάρτης, Romanianmărțișor) .

September blues- crochet, crosstitch and a little bit of knitting

I have to admit that being summer and at 5 minutes from sea did not helped too much to progress on any started project.

But, as usual, even if I did n`t finished much work , I started another two or three.

First, I finished the blue pillow and is just how I imagined, lovely without being modest.

I started a new biscornu with FOB (not that I need another one) just to see how works this degrade mouline thread.

Mouline no 57 from anchor. Nice , good blend. Colour much more beautiful then the pic.

I started a round tablecloth because the crochet magazine had 2oo grams of no 12 thread included and the picture was way to  beautiful to be left for a future time.

This is just first 5 or 6 rounds from 64. God, now I have to buy a round table.

Apparently my DH think that I fall in love to easy for all the pretty things I see. What can I do, I am just a girl .

For a good measure I designed another RPL project and I started to put it right for RAV.  Soon to be done and published. For a first :

Transfered on cloth already.Started to measure the amount of cord needed.

I am ashamed to admit that beside all this I have other two or three things started ,a crosstitch one(pillow of course) and a knitting one (just Triinu)  even that I promised to stop at 3 projects at a time… is just that I fell in love too easy.

Romanian stitched motifs on small pillow case

Feeling blue again.

Good progress  on my blue small pillow case. I have to admit that is not because I am a busy bee. It has to do with my best friend K, who keeps me on the phone around one hour almost daily and I have to do something with my hands .

Voila !!

Today I`m feeling blue

Few years ago I bought a large quantity of blue mouline thread to do a big project. Good thing because about 90% is still untouched. I have this fear of unfinished things because of thread finishing before the project is done and, to be sure I buy ….. to much.

A pillow front with Romanian stitched motifs was just the right thing to start with blue .

Red and black are the mainly used traditional colours in Romanian traditional motifs but also blue, green and yellow.

The Romanian traditional motif is the cross and is inspired from the book “ Indemanare si traditie“ by Livia Tichindelean and Mirela Gorea Chelaru. To me looks more like a flower but is nice anyway.

The stitch used is back stitch 1 thread of blue mouline on 2/2 thread of aida

cloth.
