Romanian Point lace- How to do a small ring

Small rings are used to help covering bigger spaces between cords in Romanian Point Lace. Here I used 4 pcs. of rings, finished size – 7mm diameter.

First appreciate how big the ring need to be.

To achieve each time equal rings, a few toothpicks or matchsticks will do a good job. Here I used 3 toothpicks.

Put them together with a piece of thread or scotch band at 1/3 from one end.

Let 20-25 cm thread long at the beginning, turn the thread around the toothpicks 4- 5 times.

Cut the other end of thread 20-25 cmtr long. Put a needle at this end.

Do one or two  feston points vertically under all 5 threads and pull the ring gently out.

Do other feston points around the ring, taking care to keep equal  thread tension .

Complete the ring with feston points and, at the end, pass the thread through the first 2 feston points to close the ring.

Now you have a small ring with two long threads. This ends will be used to do the bars.

When you start to do the bars, use a pin to keep the ring in place.

Last week of July CAL.

This week is the easy one. The doily is almost finished and it looks nice.

All we have to do now is to stiff the project with some starch, to take it out from the cloth, pull out all the threads and do the pictures. I`ll do the pictures for sure because it will be a gift and is my first project on Rav .

If you are not in schedule at the end of the week, don`t worry, I wait you and of course, we have plenty of time.

Good night ladies

CAL- second week programme for July daffodil square doily- RPL

First week done.
Pattern transfered, cord made, cord basted.

Looks nice, I found thread in traditional colour -cream and first I thought that is a little bit too fine and of course I bought the next one in terms of size. I did a sample and was not good as I expected – too coarse. I prefer fine lace for this one .

Mine look like this :

first flower of july free pattern

Wide cord basted :

1 flower to go:

narrow cord and wide cord basted on july free doilly pattern

narrow cord and wide cord basted on July free doily pattern

and then, if you are in schedule, in the end:

free july doily patter basted with narrow and wide cord

free July doily pattern basted with narrow and wide cord

Of course any variation of colour or type of cord is welcomed.

Now you can send pictures if you want to share with us the project progress.

Second week 11-17  July

– secure ends of cord- (only 5 pieces of cord required-4  of narrow cord and 1 wide cord)

– secure flowers and leaves between them

– do the rings

– start the bars

More details soon.

If you are not in schedule at the end of the week, don`t worry, there are other 2 weeks to go and plenty of time.

Romanian Point Lace-simple RPL narrow cord

This type of cord is simple to do and can be used for most of the Romanian Point Lace models where the narrow cord is required. Is approx.  3-4 mm wide , very good to use for  small projects or flowers and leaves in the interior of RPL models. For edges is most recommended a wider cord to increase the contrast and beauty.

This is a vintage piece realized with narrow cord . OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Try to crochet the cord  a bit loose because like this is more easy to stitch the embroidery  after the cord is basted on the pattern.

Basic pattern is :

Abbreviations: sc- simple chain, TL- turn left

Chain 2 loosely, 1 sc in ch1, TL , 1 sc in second chain ,* TL, 1 sc in second chain ,both loops* .

*1 sc in both loops formed lateral, TL *

repeat from * to *  to achieve desired length

The cord :

simple cord 1 romanian point lace RPL

After basting narrow cord , before embroidery looks like this: narrow cord 2

You can crochet in front of TV or in a waiting room as many meters you want and use them after in different projects.

Bast the cord on the cloth transferred pattern and cut cord , one cm longer at the end . Clean the threads from the end using your nails and the cord will unravel till the desired length . The thread from the end can be used to join  the end with another cord according to the pattern.

The rest of the cord will be used in a new project.Next time , the beginning  of the cord ,cleaned of small threads will have 0.5 or 1cm of thread  that will be hidden when you start to do the embroidery .
