Valentine heart -Romanian point lace

Valentine Day  is not a romanian tradition but we have a very similar one on 24 February named Dragobete. The story about this tradition in my country will follow soon.

I was thinking what to do this year to celebrate the moment and of course what can be better than a heart ? A pillow with a heart ūüôā

Romanian point lace heart in the middle of a decorative pillow is something that you can give to someone loved, appreciated or respected, for Valentine day, Mother day, 1 year day or …. anytime. Even on a T-shirt look nice. I will take a photo soon.

My dear husband liked a lot the drawing so for him is enough. My mother suggested to put the heart on a frame  ??!! What a good idea.

This is the first photo made after I did the pattern

I am happy with the result. More details to come.

RPL filling stitch for leaves-how to

Today I finished a new Romanian Point Lace pattern special for Valentine Day and when I did the pictures I thought of the big number of filling stitches that I use and sometimes I stay and think which one will look better.

Many  RPL (romanian point lace ) models have leaves or spaces that need to be filled in order to obtain a beautiful, delicate lace.  One of the most simple stitches is the infinite stich.

The name comes from the shape of  the stitch, like an horizontal eight- the sign of infinite. To realize this stitch ,insert the needle in the cord near the base of the leave (or space to be completed) and make two stitches behind the needle to secure the thread . From the base of the leave (left or right Рas you feel comfortable) insert the needle in the lateral stitch of the cord from top Рdown with the thread over the needle held up  with the finger and go parallel ,to the opposite part and insert again the needle in same way . The thread will be held down toward the end of the leave at each stitch with the thumb and inserted in the lateral of  the cord .A finished leave bellow.

If the space is bigger and this stitch is not filling well the pattern ,you can pass to the next level and do a stitch over this one, in the middle (like a rib).

f1-1

To do this stitch, start from the middle base(or top) of the leave and do one (or two)buttonhole stitches on the right and other one or two  to the left side keeping the stitches always in the middle .

f1-4

I started from the top in this case and I did two stitches each side because the space between cords is equal from base to the top and quite wide. Finished it looks like this.

f1-5

Romanian Point Lace  filling stitches are various and you can choose which ever you feel like. Even if the pattern has one specific filling feel free to change and experiment and in this way you will have a true piece of art with a little bit of your imagination and originality .

Original hook for Romanian Point Lace

If you have difficulties to crochet the cord for Romanian Point Lace the problem can be the hook.

As you can see from photos the hook is very thin all along length. These are the original hooks (from Romania) used for RPL. Small number crochet hooks from England or Italy (no 0.75 or 1) are small only at the end.

Try to find hooks similar to these, very thin on all length. Even here, in RPL country, only one factory still  produce this kind of hooks.

Have a good day ladies.

Video for 3D shape cord-rpl free pattern

Hi again,

My post about the tridimensional crocheted RPL cord was not very clear so I tried to do a video.

Any further questions are welcomed.

And  the story.

At the end of September, tourists return at their homes and the sea is a deserted place. Again. Not that I don`t like the silence. Is just that feeling that you miss something ( the sounds, the music).

Every year they let something behind, something to remember. An umbrella, a ball, a doll. You can find them on the beach laing  abandoned, sad.  This year is different. Is something cute, sweet and very naughty.

He is already friend with my 4 cats and thinks that is the owner of the house.

Cute. Have a nice day ladies.

3D shape cord-rpl free pattern

Hello again ,

Triangular shape cord is simple and create a 3d effect when is used to contour shapes.

Less used for flowers, this cord look good on the edges for smal, delicate doilies.

Pattern

-chain 3 loose

-2 sc in front thread of first ch

-1 sc in second thread of ch1

-TL

-1 sc in two front threads

TL.

Now you can start to see the triangular shape. All 3 sides of the cord are visible and will start to twist a little bit.  Do not worry, when basted, will look good and to do the filling you will insert the needle in left or right side. In that way the top of triangle remains always up an create a nice profile to your work.

Repeat till necessary length achieved. Because is not very clear in photos I did a sketch.

And now, the story (of yesterday).

Most of you already know that I grow up in a communist country. ¬†I soon learned that being left handed is a kind of shame or disease and, if you can, is better to try to pretend that you are“ normal“ .

First class at school, despite the fact that I knew to write well ,thanking to my 2 years older brother, I was forced to learn  again how to write correct- with the good hand, the right one.

My lovely teacher found that a good way to do this is to put a glove in my left hand and to tide it to my back with a cord (not Romanian cord). ¬†What do you want more for a small girl to feel “special“ ??brother

I still have flash backs with my mother whispering Рdo not use THAT hand,  and later a lot of people around-Oh my god, you are left handed !!

Finally I learned to do almost all things like “normal“ people and I still try to hide “the disease“.¬† I learned also that being different( left handed, gay, dyslexic, autist) is not easy, not pleasant but is in your brain and it cannot be changed. Wish all the best to all¬†normal or special people around.

Good night ladies
