Dragobetele (Valentine`s Romanian version) approaches and I’m almost done with lavender sachets. For those who are hopeless romantics I did some bags with hearts and started another with Romanian traditional motifs .
Because the tradition of “martisoare“ is specific to our area and may you not know why I am so busy to prepare for first March, I will refer to Wikipedia- what means martisor where you can read briefly about. Better to tell you a story about “martisoare“from my childhood.I admit, I have always liked the “martisor“ colourful joy .The nicest one, instead to give as a gift, I used to put away in a box to admire later. My little heart does not resist separating from those miniature beauties . After a while the little box mysteriously disappeared or maybe I forgot where I put it for the next year to appear like magic. Mom? Something to confess?
In recent years handmade products have gained ground again and Romanian artist’s creation are increasingly popular.
I would say that it’s ephemeral art because “martisor“ is worn pinned near to the heart or at the hand as a bracelet, just a few days (roughly from 1 March until 10 March) but I am happy to see that, when I manage to create a useful gift- martisor, it will be used all year. The best example is the one from last year, crocheted roses made of ombre wool to which I attached a clasp for brooches and then I saw these roses fondly worn on many occasions. I made a few this year.
I found a tradition very similar to that of Romaniaat the Bulgarians, our southern neighbors, the Macedonians and Greeks. Martenitsa (Bulgarian: мартеница, pronounced [martɛnit͡sa] Macedonian: мартинка, Greek: μάρτης, Romanian: mărţişor).
In early March after March 8 International Day Women and we celebrate especially our moms and March 9 – the day of 40 saints or martyrs) the white red threads from martisor are put to cling in the blossom rees in faith that will bring us luck.

Dragobetele (Sf Valentin in varianta romaneasca )se apropie si eu am terminat saculetii cu lavanda. Pentru cei care sunt romantici incurabili am pregatit si cativa saculeti cu inimioare si am inceput altii cu motive romanesti.
Recunosc , mi-au placut mereu martisoarele pentru bucuria colorata pe care o au si pe cele mai frumoase , in loc sa le daruiesc, le puneam deoparte intr-o cutiuta pentru a le admira mai tarziu. Inima mea de copil nu rezista sa se desparta de frumusetile acelea in miniatura pentru ca , din fericire nu ne invadasera inca cele din China. Dupa o vreme cutiuta disparea misterios sau uitam unde am pus-o pentru ca anul urmator sa apara ca prin minune. Mama ce spui ? Recunosti ceva ?
In ultimii ani produsele handmade au castigat din nou teren si creatiile artistilor romani sunt din ce in ce mai apreciate. As spune ca e o arta efemera pentru ca martisorul se poarta prins in piept, aproape de inima sau la mana ca o bratara, doar cateva zile (cam de la 1 martie si pana pe 10 martie ) dar am avut bucuria de a vedea ca, atunci cand reusesti sa creezi un martisor util , el va fi folosit tot anul. Cel mai bun exemplu este martisorul de anul trecut , un trandafir crosetat dintr-un fir de lana in degrade la care am atasat o inchizatoare pentru brose si l-am vazut apoi purtat la multe ocazii cu drag

La inceputul lui martie, dupa 8 martie ziua internationala femeii si ziua in care ne sarbatorim mai ales mamele si 9 martie – ziua celor 40 de sfinti sau mucenici ), snururile de la martisoare se agata in copaci infloriti din credinta ca ne vor aduce noroc .
